How To Write A Good Paragraph S1

How To Write A Good Paragraph S1

A paragraph is a set of connected  sentences that contains  (usually) one main idea. It can be as short as one sentence or as long as it can contains. The number of sentences is insignificant; hence, the paragraph should be long enough to develop the main idea distinctly.

All paragraphs have a topic sentence and supporting sentences; The topic sentence SPOTS the main idea of that paragraph. It does not only spot the topic of the paragraph, but  also restricted the topic to only one specific part that can be discussed only in this paragraph . the first sentence that is located in the beginning of the paragraph called THE TOPIC SENTENCE, it announces the specific idea to be discussed in this paragraph. Notice how the topic sentence states both the topic and the controlling ideas ?

SUPPORTING SENTENCES or DETAILS  developes the topic sentence. ; they explain or prove the topic sentence by adding more information that suppotes the same idea of the topic sentence.

And one of the biggest problems that students may find challenging in academic writing is failing in supporting their main ideas and start writing about different ideas completely away from the main one. To avoide this they should  use simple and well-structured  details that belong to the same idea ;so the paragraph looks more convencing to  the reader ;as a result you keep him in focus within one  main idea.

THE CONCLUDING SENTENCES indicates the end of the paragraph, and it prepares the reader for the ending ;so you dont just shock the reader with a full stop(.) ;that will make your paragraph unstructured and as consequence your paragraph will  lose the most important componant; coherence .
